Let's Make This a Night to Remember

The greatest lineup in baseball history is lining up at the Northwest ticket counter at Detroit Metro.

They couldn’t do much in the ALDS, but they sure know how to take a cab.

How about those ragtag Tigers? With their measly 95 wins, they have just taken three straight from the mighty Yankees and their intimidating 97 wins.

What an upset.

The dynasty is dead!

Oh wait…the dynasty’s been dead since 2001. This is five straight Octobers, plus one handy November, in which we celebrate Elimination Day, a true national day of thanksgiving.

Celebrate good times…come on!

Doo-doo-doo-doo.

Doo-doo-doo-doo.

And on this, our potentially Holy Saturday, let us pray.

Oh great Baseball gods. You have delivered unto us the Amazin’ gift of New York in October in which our team marches on to compete for Your greater glory while the other team whom Satan blighted upon our land in Nineteen Aught Three, comprised completely of overpriced demons, revolting whiners and ferret-faced sneering weasels, has been humiliated despite all expectations from the unknowing masses in distant precincts of our land. Oh great Baseball gods, we pledge to do our best to keep our eyes on Your most sacred Prize, which of course is the next game to be played, in a little while, for it is we who have a next game and it is they who do not. Oh great Baseball gods, we will do our best to not let You nor Your children down. We as Mets fans will turn our considerable energies away from rooting against that which is wicked and toward such that is good. We thank you, oh great Baseball gods, for the opportunity to represent New York with requisite humility for the remainder of this, Your greatest month, in a manner that is holy, sacred and utterly Amazin’.

Amen.

The curse of Donnie Baseball lives!
If the Mets wrap this up the night the Yankees are eliminated, go ahead and cancel Christmas this year. Really, I'm good. It'd probably feel anticlimatic anyway.
I love the YES network wrap up on Elimination Night. Michael Kay, why the long face bro?
    hahahahahahahahaha

Amen. And CAN I GET AN AMEN FROM THE BOBBLEHEADS??
albertsonmets, Michael Kay's long face is the biggest highlight this side of Derek(sneering weasel)'s, isn't it? HAHAHAHAHA
Here's to an AMAZIN' OCTOBER, free from the vertical swastika and all who sail in her. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES, COME ON!

Attention all Mets fans! Attention all Mets fans!
Let me propose that whatever happens between now and the end of this post-season, we join together in the following loving tribute to our vanquished crosstown brethren.
When you, in your Mets cap (as I'm sure you'll all be wearing as often as possible this October), happen upon a fellow sports fan wearing anything with the “YN” Bronx logo on it, please do the following.
Don't gloat; don't argue; don't do the “in your face” dance. Simply look at them and smile. Make eye contact with them and smile for as long as possible.
I'm smiling just thinking about it. And because we're already up in the first inning tonight, 3-0. Can't wait to see tomorrow's front and back pages of the New York Daily News.

So far I'm a happy woman with Part One of a night to remember….

The baseball gods have already seen fit to give me a wonderful birthday present.
Dare I dream of even greater gifts, on the anniversary of Benny Agbayani's playoff home run?

    “Elimination Day”
    Bad ass!
Gotta love the Tigers' celebration. I was hoping to see Jeter weeping, but it was even more fun watching the Gambler up on the dugout roof!

I thought you would have turned this page completely black for a day like this.

    How sweep it is!
Bring on the Cards, the Pods…does it really matter?

We did it! Took forever. Tim McCarver speculated as to whether it was Maddux's last start of the night. But it's done. Pedro Fel. picked up the win for a less than-stellar-third of an inning. But hey, we're just that good. Bring on them Padrinals or Cardres. God bless Elimination Day!

I plan to be totally insufferanle tomorrow. Gonna wear my David Wright jersey to church and send a sympathy card to my brother in law. Then to top it off, I'm buying my nephew a Yankee Eastern division champs shirt.

What makes you think any of those frontrunners will be wearing their gear for the next 5-6 months? You can't find the vertical swastika for months after Y.E.D.
Late clinchers are tough… the wife warned me not to wake up our daughter. Jumping around silently was shaking the wall unit. I ended up jumping up and down in my shorts out on the front lawn.
    Life is good.

My Church is full of frontrunners wearing their jerseys, Yankee sweats, sneakers, carrying hats. Bet we won't a single E-Rod jersey or Giambi T.
I'll go with a tasteful Mets golf shirt and a HUGE smile, myself.

HAHAHA! JoAnn, you are a woman after my own heart. The first thing I did when we won tonight was send my Yankee-fan brother a Hallmark e-card. “You are on my mind… I just wanted you to know I care.” Then the message read “So sorry your team sucks. LET'S GO METS!!”

Gloating is bad karma (but it feels sooooo good).
Third best news of the day was San Diego extending their series. Hoping for lots of tired arms in the visitors' bullpen Wednesday night. That also means we won't be facing Carpenter or Peavey in Game 1.
The Padres made Pujols look positively human today. Piazza's looked terrible, but he's Babe Ruth AND Ty Cobb compared to Kenny Lofton.

Pedro's surgery a success! Get well, Pedro! It was indeed a night to remember.

I was almost embarrassed at the depths of my feelings for Mike today… when he finally got that double I was so glad, and when he made that crazy catch, and had that big smile, I had almost the same smile.
It'll be a helluva thing if he ends up facing us. Huge ovation before his first AB, and after that, the love goes into storage.

on the bright side, at least the skanks had pretty low l.o.b. numbers their last two games.
    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Hopefully, if we do face him, he'll do that nice thing where he launches balls deep into the night, but assures us that they are intended, at the last moment, for outfielder's gloves.

    His response:
“Very funny. Enjoy your last series of the year.”
