There’s throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if something sticks. Then there’s throwing spaghetti sauce at the wall, which just makes a mess.
Supposedly we’re signing Chan Ho Park.
Chan Ho Park? Really? The epitome of “bad free-agent pitcher signing”? (Hey, before he got hurt, Mike Hampton just looked really expensive.) The signed-sealed-delivered proof that Tom Hicks shouldn’t own a ballclub? The man who gave up two grand slams in one inning? If Chan Ho Park is the answer, I don’t want to know the question.
OK, i already knew the question, and it’s “Do we have enough starting pitching?” But still. I thought the answer was “possibly no,” or “we’ll know by June,” not “let’s sign Chan Ho Park.” It almost makes a Met fan miss Steve Trachsel.
Oh Lord. OK. Deep breaths. Jose Valentin. Endy Chavez. Roberto Hernandez. Darren Oliver. Trust Omar. Trust Omar. Trust Omar.
Gerald Williams. Jeremi Gonzalez. Jose Lima!
ACK! NO! Valentin. Chavez. Hernandez. Oliver. Trustomartrustomartrustomartrustomar….
I threw up in my mouth a little…
Ok, so it's definently not Zito. But Park was pretty decent in LA, which is a pretty similar to Shea in terms of being a pitcher's stadium. Let our Zen master, Peterson, do his thing with Park and maybe this will turn out ok. Anyways, 3 mil for 2 years isnt going to kill us for when 2008 rolls around…

I believe that this was just Omar overreacting to the news of Anna Nicole Smith's death.
You left out the most important part, signing him for how much?
Looks like it's for 1 year-$3 million.
That's like me paying the kid down the street $10/month to mow my lawn, if he does it once or twice I'm covered.
If there's one thing a Boras client know how to do, it's have a good year playing for his next contract.
I like this deal a lot. He was hurt last year (not arm related) and went 7-7 for a team with a hell of a lot less hitting than we have. For $3million I'll take 10-7 this year.

We've turned back into the Mets again!! AAAAGGGHHHH!!!!
And Jose Lima looked awesome this winter. Just so's ya know.
So did Anderson Hernandez. I hope that kid learns how to hit major league hitting someday
The Dugout on Jose Lima. Didn't come true, happily. Though Lima sure did his part.
There's nothing wrong with signing the Limas and Parks of the world.
It's getting to a point where you might actually use them that's the problem.
It looks like $600k is guaranteed, with the other $2.4 million being doled out in performance bonuses.
We are at that point.
One of my favorite lines from the original Odd Couple film, the only movie on most of the 1968 Mets' IMDB credits:
Felix: That's not spaghetti, it's linguini.
Oscar:
[splats spaghetti against wall of apartment]
Now it's garbage.
Most, but not all 1968 Mets. But I suspect you knew that.
Lima is not Park, but he could be his father. Short money to a guy with talent with something to prove. Low risk, medium return.
