Thanks for coming along. I know you hate when I drag you shopping, especially when there’s been so much riveting local sports on TV, but with all I needed to pick up for my Saturday night paragraph, I needed somebody’s opinion on how it all goes together.
I’m gonna try all these facts on for size. Be honest and tell me what you think.
• “The first-place Mets…”
Ah, you already knew that fit.
• “The first-place Mets, who recently won eleven consecutive games…”
That’s not too much, is it?
• “The first-place Mets, who recently won eleven consecutive games, broke their losing streak at one….”
One wasn’t technically a streak, but it doesn’t look bad to have it tucked in the back where you can barely see it, right?
• “The first-place Mets, who recently won eleven consecutive games, broke their losing streak at one and began a new winning streak…”
A little showy, but I think it works.
• “The first-place Mets, who recently won eleven consecutive games, broke their losing streak at one and began a new winning streak by defeating their crosstown rivals, the Yankees, 8-2, at Yankee Stadium…”
I can’t help it — I love to accessorize!

You know that it’s the details that make the outfit.

Y’think that overdoing it? I don’t think you can overdo that sort of thing. It makes a very powerful statement when you see them one after another.

You can’t say all of this doesn’t go together.

I think I have a pretty complete ensemble here, but I feel a little something’s missing.

Perfect! Isn’t it?
Yes, yes, yes, I’ve got a lot going on here, but you know how I feel about these things. I truly believe there’s no such thing as a paragraph being overdressed for a Saturday night on the town, especially a Saturday night after a Saturday afternoon like that.
You forgot the large congregation of Ukrianians over at the round building named after a square celebrating a boxing match of some kind.

Something’s still missing in that paragraph, like how the spoiled Yankee fans booed poor ancient CC Sabathia once he was mercifully taken behind the shed to be sent to the great mound in heaven, or the Yankee announcers (one of these days I *got* to upgrade to premium on MLB.tv, screw them twenty bucks!) actually being forced to concede that His Aceness is quite a decent pitcher. I assume they did so while bleeding from the mouth, biting off their own tongues and all…

Girardi’s postgame damage control on CC has gotten amusing- even by Yankee sideshow standards- Been trumpeting CC’s “bad luck” in prior starts- admits he struggled Saturday (what a concession)- but we can’t crucify him for “1 bad start”– HUH? 0-4, and nearly a 6 ERA. PUHHH-LEEEEEZE.

If they can TCB vs. them tonight and Miami this coming week, they’ll be heading home to take on the Nats with a genuine chance to put up a double-digit lead on them. It’s not just that they’re winning, it’s how. They haven’t been extraordinarily lucky or fortunate or anything, it’s just plain quality baseball. It’s still very early but there’s this growing feeling that maybe this isn’t just an illusion, that something great is starting to happen here.
