Felt like October 1986 today, when I was driving home from work, listening to NLCS games five and six on my crackly car AM radio. What a surreal day. One of the most batshit games ever, the Mets and the Braves go home happy, and Pete Rose has retired to the great dog track in the sky. The baseball planets are in some weird synchronous orbits or something.
today felt as emotionally draining to me as the ’86 NLCS game 6 did then.
9 inning was more that enough – i’m not 38 years younger anymore ;0]
This day was a microcosm of the season. Not to seem ungrateful, but this doubleheader certainly shows us there are two different 2024 Mets teams. I hope the right one shows up tomorrow.
Luckily there are 3 wildcards, not 2, or else the Mets would have needed to sweep the doubleheader. Think of it this way: The Mets were better off not using another reliever in the home 9th of game 2. The bullpen is stretched for tomorrow and maybe game 2 of the Brewers series as is. I was hoping Alonso would get going though.
We definitely played differently in the exhibition game compared to the one that mattered.
