We’re all aware that Nolan Ryan is taking part (albeit from very good seats in the stands) in his first World Series since 1969. But were you aware that if the Rangers prevail then he’ll be in an exclusive club of 1969 Mets alumni? How exclusive? So exclusive it doesn’t include Tom Seaver. I assumed Greg meant ’69 players only. Otherwise you’d have to throw Whitey Herzog in there too.
Players indeed — made reference to the postseason roster. You’d have to throw in Yogi as a coach on the ’77 and ’78 world champs if you were being more expansive.
Edited for space: Grote made the World Series as a Dodger catcher twice, but didn’t win. Seaver was in uniform for the ’86 runners-up. And 11 of the 25 ’69 Mets were the ’73 Mets.
