Managerial Choice Could Be Verse
by Greg Prince on 18 November 2010 10:14 am
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
One will succeed
When the other three fail
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
A quartet contends
Yet just one can prevail
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
The talks continue
As speculation grows stale
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
From this crew a skipper
Once the others set sail
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
A mushy middle manager
Or a true alpha male?
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
Interviews by the bucket
Lest their answers prove pale
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
May the winner drive straight
And avoid the third rail

pricking our gonfalon bubble…

Social security?
Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale
Each one looks good
When it’s Jerry on the other side of the scale
Several teams have employed Melvin, Bob
Most of the time he did a mediocre job;
Sandy’s impressed with Collins, Terry
As the rest of us say, “Meh: he’s better than Jerry”;
The players all vow that they really like Chip
On the Met fan radar, he made nary a blip;
Fire and grit and 80s glow come with Wally
To hire another would surely be folly.
We fans
For whom this is more than a hobby
Have sent up the cry
“BRING BACK BOBBY!”
All this despite
Adam Rubin’s lobby
It will all work out somehow
We will have our answer soon
They will bring back Art Howe
So he can really light up the room
“Melvin, Collins, Backman, Hale” – just wish Jeff Wilpon would spare me his email.
Blowing the division to Philly
Fell square on the shoulders of Willie
And yes, the next year started poorly
But was he dismissed prematurely?
Melvin, Collins, Backman and Hale
I dont like any of them to well!
Is anybody surprised that all of these guys are within the organization?
MELVIN!!!
I can’t see myself in a
Bob Melvin Era
And I’m blurry on Chip
Without Fred MacMurray
If it’s Collins they choose
So be it, we lose
But deep down, I know
If it goes toe to toe….
If it aint Wally Backman
It surely aint jack, man
Phew.
Are we trying to rhyme era with Fred MacMurray? Really? ; )
Absolutely. Steve Douglas had four kids just like the four managerial candidates we have leff – the original three of Mike, Robbie and Chip and then Ernie when Mike got married (i.e, quit the series so to eventually be slapped by George Patton in a major motion picture). Instead of it becoming my two sons, out of the clear blue sky, like every TV family, the Douglas clan simply and quickly adopted another kid.
The aeronautical engineer finally remarried which led to his clan going from four to six (two step-daughters), eventually expanding to twelve (six grandchildren). The series was still called My Three Sons instead of My Twelve Sons and Daughters.
Nah, it’s blurry and MacMurray.
Free verse, or something.
Oh right. My bad.
