Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

The Mets Fan's Perennial Checklist

Starting at 1:10 PM, you have a job to do and you have a job to do and you have a job to do and I have a job to do. Our Commandments remain perennial, but it’s good to post a reminder every once in a while.

Opening Day is one of those onces.

Happy New Year, […]

Ready to Go

It's a crack, I'm back yeah

I'm standing on the rooftops shouting out

Baby I'm ready to go

Tonight two long-awaited things will finally happen:

1. It will be light for a respectable amount of time into the evening.

2. There will be a baseball game that means something.

The fact that these two marvels fall on the same day this […]

Thoughts of Clemens Unconditionally Released

What kind of sick mind hatches the idea that Roger Clemens might sign with the Mets, let alone pretends to approve of it?

Guilty. Hope the near-strokes and inner-mouth vomit reported in yesterday's comments section were not fatal and that the second annual Faith and Fear April Fools post was taken in the spirit it was […]

Rocket Met

It’s not so much that the Mets are going to sign Roger Clemens that worries me. It’s how much I like the move that frightens me down to what I thought was my very soul. I dunno. Maybe as I age, I don’t have one anymore.

All I know for sure is I saw Victor Zambrano […]

Absolute Beginners

Welcome to Flashback Friday, a weekly feature devoted to the 20th anniversary of the 1986 World Champion New York Mets.

Twenty years, 43 Fridays. This is one of them.

Who should bat second, Lo Duca or Beltran? Lo Duca doesn’t strike out much, which will help Reyes steal bases. But Beltran has historically thrived more […]

Land of Linkin'

We just refreshed our links section over there on the left side of the screen, particularly the New Breed, our now exceedingly expansive guide to our blolleagues on the Mets' Worry, Wallow & Wail circuit. Give 'em a try sometime. You'll also find a few new fun things to distract you at work in the […]

Closer To Real

Holy crap! The baseball season starts in less than a week!

I’ve been holed up with my Snigh for the last few days and realize that everything I’m seeing (except for the sailing show, the poker show and the Dean Martin Roasts infomercial) translates to potential implications for the first days of the rest of our […]

The Rain

Welcome to Flashback Friday, a weekly feature devoted to the 20th anniversary of the 1986 World Champion New York Mets.

Twenty years, 43 Fridays. This is one of them.

It rained in Jupiter Thursday night. It rained on the Mets and the Marlins. It rained out a baseball game.

How often can you offer praise for […]

First-Name Basis

Spring training as a rule is indeed too long. But are we really ready for what lies beyond?

I'm not endorsing a pushback of Opening Day or anything heretical like that, but the real thing (known as the Zeile thing in 2000, 2001 and 2004 and we looked forward to it anyway) is but a scant […]
