You Light Up Our Life

We celebrate the inauguration of 2009 by thanking you for your explosive support of Faith and Fear in Flushing across 2008: 2,330,556 page views, a new FAFIF record. More than 6.3 million page views have graced our skyline since we began blogging almost four years ago. Thank you for looking in and thank you for […]

All Credit to Shea Then!

MORE: Must you wear those clothes, Will?
ROPER: Yes, I Must
MORE: Why?
ROPER: The time has come for decent men to declare their allegiance!
MORE: And what allegiance are those designed to express?
ROPER: My allegiance to the Church.
MORE: Well, you look like a Spaniard.
ROPER: All credit to Spain then!

The above exchange between Sir Thomas More and William Roper, […]

Merry Bricksmas

Seventeen inches wide, twelve pounds heavy and many brothers shy of a load…that’s my Shea Stadium brick, an nth of the place I loved and a pretty decent conversational companion if you’re not put off by his gruff manner.

From my brick and me and all of us here at Faith and Fear in Flushing, have yourselves […]

Home Run Heaven

“An unmeasurable shot of something more than 500 feet,” wrote Leonard Koppett. “That one today would have gone over the third fence and hit the bus in the parking lot if it hadn’t hit the seats,” said Ron Swoboda. At Howie Rose’s behest, Tommie Agee’s home run that soared into the Upper Deck on April […]

Frame Game

Remember your first game at Shea? Stony Brook University assistant director of undergraduate admissions Chris D’Orso sure does. As Jason explained, Chris, one of our friends from the Crane Pool Forum, preserved a one-of-a-kind framed record of the June 12, 1982 Mets’ 6-2 win over the Cardinals in peerless style. (We’ll let it slide that at the age of […]

Deep Blue Something

There once was a place called the Loge Boxes. I’d know them anywhere. Couldn’t tell you who did the paint job upon paint job, but I can tell you our talented friend David G. Whitham captured this little slice of Shea Stadium life last season back when you could still do that sort of thing. […]

The Other Side of Endy

The trade needed to be made for the bullpen’s sake, but it’s sad to see the back of Endy Chavez as he leaves town. We’re not used to this view of the little left fielder who could and did. We’re used to something more like this.

A Taste of Summer

This is a peek into Shea Stadium circa summer 2008 as it is a peek into the talent of David G. Whitham, an incredibly gifted photographer of baseball and everything else (which is how we like to rank life around here). I met David through my friend Sharon late in the season and he’s been […]

FAFIF Shirt Comes Out of its Shell

A nice surprise from the Mets Guy in Michigan: the Faith and Fear t-shirt getting some sun in the Cayman Islands. Dave Murray poses alongside the Caymans’ national symbol, Brian Schneider.

You, however, can be quick to join Dave in numbering up for the holidays by clicking here. (Trip to Cayman Islands not included.)
