ABOUT US

Greg Prince and Jason Fry
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.

Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

America the Beautiful

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain

America, America
God shed His grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea

The Curse of the Adriatic?

St. Mark’s Square is under there somewhere. It occurred to me, back in Venice showing our colors, that since I first came here in late September 2007 the Mets have been struggling to stay above water….

Our Flag Was Still There

Remember those innocent times when the league standings flags flew around the perimeter of Shea Stadium? Here’s our flag. It’s up for auction in the latest batch of treasures and trivia trafficked by MeiGray.

And the Mets didn’t want to hold on to this authentic swatch of their history and fly it or at least display it […]

Destruction of the Temple

Somebody became a man at Shea Stadium in 1995, according to Bar Mitzvah Disco, the most awesome book from which this picture is lovingly borrowed. Now William A. Synagogue is on the verge of disappearing. Talk about your cause for an oy vey!

Note the Harry M. Stevens guy will not serve or sell beer to minors. Bad news […]

Senior Circuit's Seen Better Days

The oldest established association of professional baseball clubs (and permanent floating crap game) has its champion for 2008. We can’t help but feel the National League was better represented when Ross Chapman and his trusty Faith and Fear t-shirt lined up alongside its shield over the summer, but that’s as close as our first choice would come […]

Curtain Call

I didn’t know I was on camera, but while I was applauding for every single Met right up to the Met of Mets (note scoreboard), Stephanie clicked me in action. That, I suppose, is what I was doing for the better part of an hour on September 28, 2008. Bringing Tom Seaver out was the only […]

One More Banner Day

Faith and Fear reader LisaMets loved Shea right to the bitter end. This is the banner she hung from a place that used to be known as Mezzanine Section 27. Didn’t make it on TV, didn’t get shown on DiamondVision, but we’d like to think we know quality and heart when we see it (even […]

Good Scout

If only the Mets had more scouts like Ross Chapman, maybe Jerry Manuel wouldn’t have been desperately beating the bushes for relief help down the stretch.

Ross wore his trusty Faith and Fear shirt on a scouting adventure this past summer. The Mets went on a long winning streak. Coincidence? No more so than today is Ross’ […]

Logging Out

This is how The Log ends, with the final sixteen games in Shea Stadium history present and accounted for. My record in them was the same as the Mets’: 8-8. Lifetime record in the 402 regular-season games I wound up attending: 218-184. You’ll note I wrote real small on 9/7, 9/9 and 9/10 to accommodate the […]

Good Advice

Never Shea die…even if you’re tempted.
