ABOUT US

Greg Prince and Jason Fry
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.

Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

A Beautiful Addition to My Baseball Library

Received an advance copy of my book yesterday and couldn’t resist introducing it to some, if not all, of its inspirations. (I couldn’t bring myself to include anything by Roger Angell in the picture. It’s shocking enough to me that I can place something I wrote on the same shelves that hold The Summer Game and Five […]

Let's Hope This Picture Comes to Life

Never Fear, Baseball's Here!

Hozzie the Cat can stop hiding now. The Mets return to something resembling action this afternoon at 1:00 on SNY, taking on…like it matters who they play. Jace is mostly right: Spring Training games are useless teases — except for the first one, which serves the same purpose as the adrenaline shot in Pulp Fiction. This is the […]

Whole

Shea, there it is. And will always be, somewhere.

Thanks again to David G. Whitham for letting us feature his wonderful Shea Stadium portfolio in the winter of its deconstruction. Bet he makes the next joint look just as memorable.

Shadowy Figures Lost & Found

Charlie Hangley, one of the readers who makes our Faith and Fear community such a nice place to live, recently cruised to Curacao to have a word with Andruw Jones, resplendent (if a bit shadowy) in 37, 14, 41 and 42. Buy a Faith and Fear t-shirt and see the world…or just sit around the house. What […]

Last Man Standing

One of the talented photographers capturing what’s left of Shea Stadium and posting the evidence on the Shea Demolition page at Baseball-Fever, johnql, shot an Amazin’ image today, that of an exterior that is down to one neon Met flanked on either side by a few ramps. You can see the whole thing for yourself here. I […]

ABC, Easy as OCD

Joshua sorting Met cards. As you might imagine, it’s all my fault. Well, mine and Rickey Henderson’s. Click here for the story.

You Guys Are Wonders

Checking the Amazon sales charts will eventually be the death of me, so I’ll cut back, but I couldn’t help but notice that at 8 o’clock this morning Faith and Fear in Flushing: An Intense Personal History of the New York Mets had risen to No. 7 on the Baseball Essays & Writings list, which made me […]

Judge This Book By Its Cover

Faith and Fear in Flushing: An Intense Personal History of the New York Mets has gone to press and should be out before Opening Day. When you go to your popular online booksellers to pre-order it (right now, presumably), you might see slightly different text, but this here is what it looks like. My thanks to […]

'I'm Tellin' Ya, It Was Sourdough'jpg

Longtime Faith and Fear reader Jason Gerrish is a big fan of the banner he remembers from the Gate A Field Level entrance inside the late, great Shea Stadium, that of Casey Stengel and a man in blue discussing, perhaps, the size of a really good loaf of bread. Or maybe they’re arguing about baseball. […]
