ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Welcome to The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season consisting of the “best” 70th game in any Mets season, the “best” 71st game in any Mets season, […]

Welcome to The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season consisting of the “best” 22nd game in any Mets season, the “best” 23rd game in any Mets season, […]

The phrase “48th birthday” carries a Metsian resonance that resounds beyond the usual suspects. Randy Tate, Randy Myers, Aaron Heilman (I suppose)…all valid identifiers for we who are tenured fans/MBTN bookmarkers, yet when I found myself earlier this week noticing the nearness of my 48th birthday, one name unattached to uniform No. 48 planted itself […]

Say — or should I say hey — you know who was a really good baseball player? Willie Mays.
You probably knew that already, but you’ll really know it if you read Willie Mays: The Life, The Legend by James Hirsch. You’ll know a ton by the time you float through its 560 pages of text. […]

If you still haven’t quite gotten all the bubble gum dust off your fingers, then it’s Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
I stopped collecting baseball cards a long time ago. But I never stopped accumulating them.
That’s what I have, an accumulation. They have gathered. They have piled up. They have snaked their way […]

It took ’til the end of summer, but I got a Seaver in 1972. I was so proud that I apparently tacked it to my bulletin board with at least five different pushpins.

This is Willie Mays of the New York Mets as captured by Topps for 1973. I still can’t believe he played for us. Based on content, I think this is my favorite card ever.

If you’re taking care of old business every week, then it must be Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
Monday marked the 35th anniversary of Willie Mays’ debut as a New York Met. And the 35th anniversary of Willie Mays’ homecoming as a New York baseball immortal.
The two events were not coincidental.
The Mets weren’t […]
