Sunday Night at the Metsies (Part II)

It was a win, which made it much better than a loss, but for a Mets fan, it was mostly uneasy. The Mets were making their second Sunday Night Baseball appearance of 1998 on ESPN, their twentieth overall. The previous nineteen — beginning with the very first SNB telecast in 1990 and running through early […]

The 49th Parallels

With my incurring a 49th birthday today, I received a number of touching messages from Mets who can truly relate to being 49. Thought I’d share them with you.

“Let me be the FIRST to wish you happy birthday.”

Jose Reyes grimaced while fielding a grounder in the hole and became, in that instant, a non-playing All-Star. Tim Hudson threw a river of unhittable pitches. Jason […]

Junior's Mystique

With the seventh pick in the first round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft, the New York Mets selected…some kid.

I wish him well. I wish to see him on the Mets before too long. Until then, Matt Harvey — RHP, UNC — is just a name to me, no more guaranteed of success than […]

In the Shadow of 2000

The Mets took a lead, held a lead and only made you think it possible, not probable, that they would blow the lead.

Progress!

A good win for the Mets over the Yankees at Citi Field Saturday night. A good win beats any kind of loss, though I have to say in the fourteenth season of […]
