Hi and Mighty Glad to See You

Hi again, Chasen Shreve — and you, too, Matt Reynolds and Johneshwy Fargas. The Mets decided to solve their lefthanded bullpen void by rewinding to 2020 and snatching up the perfectly capable Shreve, who by coming back after a season in Pittsburgh gets the chance to break free of his Silent Generation designation. May the […]

Welcome, THB Class of 2020!

So 2020 was a … strange year, on the baseball field and everywhere else. (You might have noticed.) A global pandemic forced a jury-rigged, stop-start 60-game baseball season, which the Mets proceeded to botch, passing up perhaps the easiest path to the playoffs ever available. In the case of the Mets blowing a large lead when they’ve posted double-digit runs, that’s too familiar a sensation to count in the camp of “Gosh, I’m certain this has happened before, but I just […]

Outta Where?

For the past two nights, I haven’t had to think about what to watch on television. It was summer and the Mets were on. The viewing menu for any Mets fan in summer has been dependably predictable that way since 1962. Sub in radio for television if that’s how you roll.

Score one for dependability, predictability […]

Your Number or Your Name

Spring Training was welcomed heartily last Saturday to 31 Piazza Drive in Port St. Lucie and, perhaps because it’s only been televised back to New York thrice thus far, has yet to expend its novelty factor. At the intersection of Brinson (Lewis, one of those few visiting Marlins who doesn’t require an introduction) and Clover […]
