The Happiest Recap: 160-161

Welcome to The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season that includes the “best” 160th game in any Mets season, the “best” 161st game in any Mets season…and […]

The Met Who Would Be King

I’m very happy David Wright launched a three-run homer to give the Mets an immediate lead in Washington. I’m very happy David can now say he’s homered at Nationals Park, the last N.L. holdout where his slugging was concerned (he’s homered in all the other Senior Circuit ballparks — even Citi Field).

Welcome to The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season consisting of the “best” 16th game in any Mets season, the “best” 17th game in any Mets season, […]

Ed […]

Once upon a time, a five-year-old boy was pulled out of kindergarten by his dad to attend a weekday afternoon baseball game. It was his first baseball game, and it was the greatest baseball game in the world as far as he knew. Forty-five years later, he could recite the details lovingly — at least […]

Davis, Save Us

The Mets were meandering through their most arid major award season since 1993 — the last time no Met scored a single vote for MVP, Cy Young, Manager of the Year or Rookie of the Year nor nabbed a Silver Slugger or Gold Glove — when it appeared we’d have nothing more to sate our […]

Now About That Franchise Hit Record...

There’s a lot of talk going around about all-time franchise records for hits. I assume this has something to do with the eternal appreciation fans and media have for true legends of the game. Given that the subject is in the air, I thought it would be fun (my kind of fun, at any rate) […]
