A Quiet Met's Quiet Departure

If five years suddenly feels a lot more like a half-decade, then it’s Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.

It was a simple plan. In the bottom of the sixth, I was going to stand up when the leadoff batter came to the plate. I was going to clap. Applaud, really applaud. It would […]

Working Overtime

Takin’ care of business for the 97th time in 162 attempts, the Mets ended their regular season.

Their next assignment is to turn the season into something extraordinary.

Even more so than it already is.

The television overlords have granted us a comfy interregnum, until Wednesday at 4:09 PM, to find out what awaits. For now, we know […]

Snap Out Of It

Wake up Metsies — I think I got something to say to you:

Why We Stood for Mike Piazza

The game stops. Of course it does. The top of the seventh is over. This is when we stand, when we […]

Sunday Will Never Be The Same

In the second at-bat I saw today, Mike Piazza put […]

Last Licks

Today is the day we remain who we are in earnest.

It’s come to this: I’m fuming at the Braves for blowing an eighth-inning lead to the Marlins and thereby costing us a Saturday night clinch of third place outright. Dan Kolb sucks just enough to not do us any good. On the other hand, who […]

Flashback Friday: 1995 (The Exciting Conclusion)

This is the exciting conclusion of 1995. Part I appears in a previous post.

There was one week remaining in the season and I had a ticket for one more game. Actually, I had eight tickets. In ’93, I had the bright idea to lead the magazine on an outing to Shea. It went over so […]
