The End of Days

Welcome to the final edition of Flashback Friday: Tales From The Log, a final-season tribute to Shea Stadium as viewed primarily through the prism of what I saw there for myself, namely 402 regular-season and 13 postseason games in total. The Log recorded the numbers. The Tales tell the stories.

Natspos Out, Metspos In

It had to happen sooner or later. With Nick Johnson and Chad Cordero disabled and Luis Ayala traded, there is no longer a single Montreal Expo on the active roster of the former Montreal Expos, a.k.a. the Washington Nationals. My beloved 1997 season, the one few besides […]

No fictional character in the popular culture — not Sidd Finch, not Chico Escuela, not Oscar Madison — has done more to enhance the Metropolitan legend than […]

Expos Over America

It’s been more than a year since they played baseball in Montreal or, as they did the last time they ever saw daylight, Flushing. Yet the Expos continue to lurk among us. The streets of baseball are too crowded with Expos tonight.

While the Washington Nationals go about not being sold, not building a ballpark and […]

WAS (Not WAS)

Amen, brother. Sayeth His Coheniness, “Pedro’s been described as a diva. What he is is a maestro.”

No disrespect to Martinez, Mientkiewicz and all who made Thursday night necessary, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these two squads played back-to-back blowouts. It’s hard to take games in Florida seriously given that every name they […]
