ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Welcome to Flashback Friday: Tales From The Log, a final-season tribute to Shea Stadium as viewed primarily through the prism of what I have seen there for myself, namely 358 regular-season and 13 postseason games to date. The Log records the numbers. The Tales tell the stories.

In this notebook is scrawled the history of every official Major League Baseball game I’ve ever attended. Each Flashback Friday in 2008 will be devoted to culling its numbers and telling its tales, starting with the night in 1981 I began filling in its blanks.

Hopefully, even though years ending in 7 and 2 have produced zero Mets titles, it won’t result in a series of bad trips.
I wrote that on January 5, slightly smug in the notion that for once, we would see a year that ends in a 7 or 2 produce a playoff season.
I was wrong. Sorry […]

From the top of the Top 500:
10. There isn’t a Spinners’ radio hit from their halcyon and gorgeous period between 1972 and 1976 that doesn’t flat out make me happy. None makes me happier than One Of A Kind (Love Affair).
9. As I approach Merrick Road, make the next song Baby Baby by Amy Grant. Nothing […]

If it’s the final Friday of the month, then it’s the tenth installment of the special Top 10 Songs of All-Time edition of Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
There would be baseball games on that radio, but not just yet. Not on this particular Friday, not with the players on strike. It was […]

If you’re down to remembering what it was like to remember everything that had come before, then it’s the penultimate Flashback Friday of 2007 at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
I was having a nice, friendly conversation with someone I’d known a long time in the fall of 2002, mostly but not primarily about baseball. I’m […]

If the offseason has your calendar off-kilter already, then it’s Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
My family meant well. They mean well. It’s not their fault they never loved baseball the way I did. But they tried to reach out. Dad bought us tickets to my first game ever for September 23, 1972. […]

If you can’t make it out, those are — clockwise from the top left — Rey Ordoñez, John Olerud, Todd Hundley and Bobby Jones at play on my torso. We were in Cooperstown on August 26, 1997. The Mets were 70-60 at that moment, trailing the Florida Marlins by 5-1/2 games in the Wild Card race. […]

When the season began, they were nobody. When it ended, they were somebody. If it’s the first Friday of the month, then we’re remembering them in this special 1997 edition of Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
Ten years, seven Fridays. This is the last of them.
Here’s the crux of it. This is why […]
