Talking Gary Carter Tonight

I’ll be on with the guys from Happy Recap radio tonight at 6 to remember the life and Met times of Gary Carter. Other great guests join the show between 5 and 7. You can listen live or to the podcast later .

Farewell to the Kid

In the spring of 1987, Gary Carter’s book A Dream Season hit stores. My mom heard Carter would be at Haslam’s Book Store in central St. Petersburg and drove down there to get me a signed copy, leaving plenty of time to wait in line. Only there was no line — St. Petersburg was still affectionately […]

He Put the 8 in 1985

Welcome aboard, and thank you for joining our tour group. We know you could have chosen any Met season to get lost in for a little while, but we think you chose wisely in deciding to join us here in 1985. We’re not supposed to play favorites, but between you folks and me, this is […]

Carter: A Name, Not A Number

Gary Carter Stadium in Port St. Lucie…has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Won’t happen, though, because Gary Carter was a catcher and isn’t a corporation. Some company few Mets fans had ever heard of before 2010 or have any idea what exactly it does owns the rights to the name of the Mets’ […]

Classic Move

On Thanksgiving, SNY ran three of its most classic Mets Classics: the 1986, 1988 and 2006 division-clinchers. They’re all worthy choices and they’ve all been shown so often that I should know them by heart, but it never hurts to take a second (or second-hundredth) look at the Mets earning a playoff spot. Bud only […]

The Happiest Recap: 162-163

Welcome to the final installment of The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season that concludes here with the “best” 162nd game in any Mets season and the […]

The Promise Keepers: Reyes & Carter

I’m pretty sure Jose Reyes gave me a Metgasm Tuesday night.

It was in the top of the sixth when, with Ruben Tejada on second, Jair Jurrjens threw his 2-1 pitch high and tight at Jose, pushing our Met of Mets off the plate. Since they had obviously just waxed the dirt at Turner Field, Jose […]

Gary Carter, Pull Through

Tough, tough news today where Gary Carter is concerned: four “small tumors” were found on his brain; their status as malignant or benign hasn’t yet been learned.

If there’s any sentiment as obvious as Let’s Go Mets this otherwise sunny Subway Series Saturday, it’s Get Well Kid.

Update: Carter issued a statement explaining he will be examined […]

The Happiest Recap: 001-003

Welcome to The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season consisting of the “best” first game in any Mets season, the “best” second game in any Mets season, […]

The Best of Times, Revisited Again

A season with 108 wins and a World Series title deserves every moment in the sun we can get it. Continuing/completing our series of guest posts at MSG.com, here’s my appreciation of Gary Carter and Keith Hernandez, two very different men who were equally important to that great team.
