Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.

Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Can't Fight City Hall

He could have been elected mayor at this moment.

If you didn’t make it to the ticker-tape parade the City of New York threw for its World Champion New York Mets in 1969, then by all means click right here for a delicious two-minute, forty-one second bite of it, courtesy of NYC Media. It’s […]

On Outliving Gil Hodges

The phrase “48th birthday” carries a Metsian resonance that resounds beyond the usual suspects. Randy Tate, Randy Myers, Aaron Heilman (I suppose)…all valid identifiers for we who are tenured fans/MBTN bookmarkers, yet when I found myself earlier this week noticing the nearness of my 48th birthday, one name unattached to uniform No. 48 planted itself […]

Managing At Last to Love Whitey & Honor Davey

I was no fan of Whitey Herzog’s when he was The Enemy in the middle and late 1980s. Man, did I hate those Cardinal teams, probably more than I hated the Bobby Cox Braves of the late ’90s and early 2000s, Durocher’s Cubs, Leyland’s Pirates or Charlie Manuel’s Phillies of recent vintage.

That’s a lot of […]

You'll Rarely Manage in This Game Again

With Bobby Valentine’s non-hiring as manager of the Florida Marlins proving once again his predecessor’s 1973 utterance about it not being over until is over oh so true, one wonders if the key credential on his managerial résumé is the item that quietly did him in. Bobby V won a pennant for the Mets, yet […]

Move Over Daniel (Here Comes David)

Jonathon Niese endured. Ike Davis awoke. David Wright served the main course to one lucky Acela Club patron. The Florida Marlins learned that no one — and I mean no one —  comes into our house and pushes us around (hubris not applicable on final days of seasons). And while all this was going on, […]

A Rotunda & Then Some

There was a lovely ceremony this afternoon to dedicate the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, featuring Rachel Robinson, Governor Paterson, Senator Schumer, Fred Wilpon and other dignitaries. It was more moving than you’d expect. Shea Stadium became the home office of Jackie Robinson’s legacy on this date in 1997, thus it’s right and fitting that his […]

The Induction Speech We Ought to Hear

If Joan Hodges is stepping to the podium in Cooperstown this summer, it would be justice. At the very least, it’s Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.

Thank you Commissioner Selig, members of the board of the Hall of Fame, all of the Hall of Famers here today and all of you who made […]

Gimme a Met with Hair

My outer head needs a haircut and my inner child resists. It’s always been that way because when I was a kid, hair length was a big issue in the world at large and among ballplayers, especially the ones I admired. Tug McGraw and Jim Bouton wrote books about battles with the establishment, rightly scoffing […]
