Greg Prince and Jason Fry
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.

Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Three Days of the Cowgill

We may lose and we may win
But we will never be here again
So open up, I’m climbin’ in
—Glenn Frey, The Eagles

And I said to myself, this is the business we’ve chosen.
—Hyman Roth, The Godfather

If you told me I was going to three games in a four-day span in the middle of the season, I’d say, […]

Parsing Daniel Murphy

With the Mets acquiring little in the way major league talent this offseason, Sandy Alderson making no promises they’ll acquire any more during what’s left of it and the scheduling of something as ostensibly upbeat as Banner Day/Night somehow managing to piss people off, this correspondent seeks something encouraging or at least intriguing to get […]

It's Who Ya Know

Ryder takes his FAFIF shirt out for a Citi Field on-field spin.

Stephanie and I have enjoyed telling people we know Ryder Chasin since the day we met him at his Bar Mitzvah in the fall of 2009. If that sounds like an unusual place to meet somebody for the first time, Ryder was […]

Tick...Tick...Tick...

“This is the bad time.”
—Henry Hill, GoodFellas

If I may use the present tense while it’s still technically valid, Miguel Batista doesn’t so much throw pitches for the New York Mets as he contemplates them. Not that any Mets fan necessarily wants Miguel Batista to throw his next pitch unless it’s his last, but my goodness […]

He's a Met Fella, He's One of Us

There was Cleon and Tommie…

“I’ll track that thing down for ya.”

And Tom Terrific, who they also called The Franchise…

“Throw strikes.”

And Little Buddy…

“Let ’em hit it on the ground.”

Jerry the Kooz and Jerry the Catcher…

“Keep the ball down, would ya guy?”

Rusty the Orange…

“Hey, call me in a pinch.”

And his guy Mex who wasn’t even Mexican…

“A little […]

Shine On, You Diamond in the Rough

Wonderful profile from Brian Costa of the Star-Ledger on the more than humble background of dream closer (or perhaps starter) Jenrry Mejia:

Six years ago, Jenrry Mejia did not own a glove. He did not have a bat. He had no use for a ball.

The tools of his trade were a brush, a piece of cloth […]

You Wanna Believe

I just looked at the Wild Card standings.

Colorado and San Francisco are tied for first.

Chicago and Houston are 2 behind.

Atlanta and Florida are 2½ behind.

Milwaukee is 4 behind.

And then you have the Mets, tied for eighth with the Reds, 7½ back.

In other seasons, maybe even this season not that long ago, I would have processed […]

Cue 'Layla (Piano Exit)'

Jimmy was cutting every link between himself and the robbery…still, months after the robbery, they were finding bodies all over.
—Henry Hill on the aftermath of the Lufthansa thing

The Mets bullpen crew whacked the Mets’ playoff hopes. The Mets are getting even.

Heilman.

Smith.

Now this.

When they found Schoeneweis on the Diamondbacks, he was frozen so stiff it took […]
