ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

We’ve rooted for good Mets teams in Septembers when they’ve lost ballgames badly. When every game matters in pursuit of the playoffs, every loss stings deeply. One loss can be all it takes to end the chase for which we as fans live, so of course we’re gonna take it hard when it lands on […]

I missed the first game of Sunday’s day-night doubleheader, but it was for a baseball-related reason: we took the Staten Island ferry to get our first look at the 2017 Brooklyn Cyclones.
It hasn’t exactly been going well down on Coney Island — the Cyclones are last in their division and have a .266 winning percentage, […]

Technically, Sunday afternoon’s Mets win over the Nationals was the day half of a day-night doubleheader, but you’d be excused for confusion in that the day game itself proceeded like day and night from a Met perspective. Maybe that was appropriate at the end of a week that commenced with a solar eclipse.
DAY BREAKS: Asdrubal […]

One of the things I’ve enjoyed about this Mets era — 2015, 2016, 2017 — is the sense that even when these guys aren’t quite playing good ball, they know how to be good ballplayers, particularly good teammates. That probably comes from a proliferation of decent fellas playing the game for a decent interval. Live […]

It’s an inadvertent law of roster construction that every team have one reliever whose niche — the one assigned to him by the baseball deities, as opposed to envisioned for him by management — is to be the guy in the aluminum suit who stands on the roof during lightning storms.
You know him. He’s Rich […]

There’s something about these New York Mets, these New York Mets of 2015, 2016 and 2017 that doesn’t let you turn your back completely on them. If we were realtors, we’d marvel at their good bones. We’re Mets fans, so we figure that’s just asking for trouble and a visit from Ray Ramirez with that […]

“Let’s take a look!”
The big story — Mets 2017.
Exciting. Thrilling. Awesome!
Not very often.
Ten-game homestand.
Two straight wins!
Three straight losses.
Three more wins!
Friday…Oakland.
Tough opponent?
Not really!
Steven Matz?
Five innings.
Terry Collins?
Seen enough.
Michael Conforto — home run!
Once?
Twice!
RBIs?
Four!
T.J. Rivera — home run?
Not really.
Oakand A’s?
Oakland E’s!
One out, two on, T.J. up, A’s lead…
One hit, one more out, three runs in, Mets lead!
Lucas […]

The Mets don’t actually travel the earth with a black cloud over their heads, but it sure does seem that way sometimes.
From Zack Wheeler to Hansel Robles to Yoenis Cespedes, Monday night’s game was one stomach punch after the other, almost as if baseball was trying to point out the folly of continuing to subject ourselves […]

If there was a way to lose Wednesday night, the Mets were going to find it.
The bullpen was terrible. The bullpen was terribly managed. The hitters turned a gimme into a gag me. Just a complete and utter disaster.
Insult to injury: said meltdown came against the Padres, who sure don’t look like a team capable […]

An occasional debate in these parts and elsewhere is whether there’s such a thing as a good loss. Does it make a difference if your team lost but put the fear of the baseball gods in the opposition? Lost but learned something about themselves? (Other than, presumably, that they lost.) Lost but exhausted the other […]
