Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

It wasn’t fun watching Ike Davis strike out, roll an ankle and let a grounder play him into a helpless knot on its way into right field.
It wasn’t fun watching Jon Rauch hang sliders and snap his big, tattooed head around to follow their flight into faraway parts of Citi Field.
It wasn’t fun watching Scott […]

Somehow, I imagined that seeing my favorite team play a doubleheader that included two big-league debuts and began with David Wright poised to claim the club record for RBIs would be more fun.
After 10 days far from home, the idea of my own couch and the Mets on my own TV was pretty close to […]

David Wright has 733 career RBIs, a .500 batting average and, I vaguely recall, a fractured pinky. Ike Davis has three home runs in four days despite playing no games for four-and-half months last season and contracting valley fever this spring. Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been leading off games in the major leagues for one day […]

It may feel like we’ll see more losses like Wednesday afternoon’s than Ruben Tejada will see pitches this year, but it won’t be nearly that bad, statistically speaking. We can’t lose more than 158 games and Ruben sees almost that many pitches in a given week.
Yet sometimes you can’t argue with how something feels.
Wrightlessness […]

Tonight shortly after six, when Dillon Gee faces the Nationals’ Roger Bernadina with the first pitch that pretends to matter in 2012, strike one would be most preferable. Shortly thereafter, when Long Beach’s own John Lannan returns the favor sixty feet and six inches from Andres Torres, our new center fielder is advised to take […]

Some games are taut testaments to the majesty of baseball when it’s played at the highest possible level by the best players in the world.
And other games are just fun.
Tonight’s opening tilt with the Giants certainly wasn’t a taut testament to anything, not with balls being misplayed and dopey stuff on the bases and grousing […]

Welcome to The Happiest Recap, a solid gold slate of New York Mets games culled from every schedule the Mets have ever played en route to this, their fiftieth year in baseball. We’ve created a dream season consisting of the “best” 31st game in any Mets season, the “best” 32nd game in any Mets season, […]

I love Tim Lincecum, I really do. I love that perfect motion of his — my description of it last year was “the equation that solves a knotty physics problem, and leaves you smiling at the elegance and beauty of the answer,” which I’m not going to improve on. I love his God-given talents, […]

Josh Thole loomed as Mr. Metaphor Saturday night, falling down rounding first and getting his eager ass tagged out on a throw-behind from Emilio Bonifacio to Gaby Sanchez in the seventh, then picking himself up, dusting himself off and lining the go-ahead single in the ninth. Turned out, however, Thole’s destiny was to serve as […]
