ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Playing the Yankees is one of my least favorite parts of the season. The same goes for West Coast trips.
Yet over a stretch of 30 hours or so, both turned out pretty nicely.
I mostly missed the Mets’ marvelous, off-the-deck mauling of Mariano Rivera, as I was away with friends in Vermont in a place where […]

Perhaps the cosmic forces could handle only so much suck for one Sunday. It was gloomy outside. It was gloomier on TV. The Mets were one out from being swept out of Citi Field by the last people you’d ever want to let near a broom. Jose Reyes was, for all we knew, playing phantom […]

I admit it, the only parts I heard were the boring parts.
I got a late start on the evening, grabbing my iPhone as I dashed out the door. I fumbled my way into MLB At Bat and noted, with a certain cheerful approval, that it was already 2-0 Mets. Walking to pick up Emily in […]

It’s wonderful to be a Mets fan right now. It really is. While everybody tells jokes, the Mets have assembled a Quadruple-A lineup of guys who don’t do too much but do just enough, playing the game the right way, not shooting themselves in the foot and —
DICKEY! WOULD YOU NOT DO THAT? I KNOW […]

In one of those misbegotten seasons when Daniel Murphy doesn’t leave too soon on Jason Bay’s sacrifice fly but Angel Pagan forgets to brush a foot over second, Pagan is out at first before Murphy gets home — and Murphy likely leaves too soon anyway. But the whole thing is moot because Bay strikes out […]

If I’d asked you on Wednesday night if you were disappointed to think about a Mets-free Monday, you’d have said that wasn’t funny. We were 5-13, still reeling from watching rainouts or doubleheader losses, and the idea of meaningful games in May had become a sour joke.
Four days later, well, whaddya know? That day off […]

Looking back, you could see that as the last moment when the sports business was at human scale, a club where everybody knew who was who.
—Richard Ben Cramer, Joe DiMaggio: The Hero’s Life
Why wouldn’t you want to be around baseball in December? It’s so much better than everything else December has to offer.
Tuesday, December 14, […]

The great thing about having a scapegoat is giving him up. Jason Bay, I hereby release you from all the blame for the Mets’ season having ended prematurely early two nights ago.
Unless, of course, it ends again before it’s supposed to and you seem responsible for facilitating the process.
But let’s not think like that. We’ve […]

A few positive developments can be found buried deep within the detritus of the Mets’ otherwise soul-killing 14-inning loss at Arizona Wednesday night.
• Carlos Beltran drove in his first run since September 30 and is now only 43 behind Jason Bay for the season.
• Angel Pagan was one triple shy of a cycle. And Jason […]

So the Mets lost a tight one to the Atlanta Braves tonight … and you’d assume it’s time for us all to jump off a bridge. Four games out and the Phillies came off the gurney to beat the Reds and Cliff Lee’s a Yankee Ranger and ohgod ohgod ohgod ohgod ohgod.
Except I can’t seem […]
