ABOUT US

Greg Prince and Jason Fry
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.

Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.

Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

Nope, Still Not Going Well

The Mets said all the right things after getting beaten by the Rays 8-5 on Tuesday night in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score suggests. Justin Verlander talked about understanding the fans’ frustration and about how the players were frustrated too and about needing to work hard. Buck Showalter […]

A Basic Baseball Equation

The Mets have been both bad and unwatchable for the better part of two weeks, so Tuesday night counted as progress: They were watchable.

Watchable, as they fought back after being put in a deep hole by David Peterson, Stephen Nogosek, and (one could argue) the umpiring crew, which missed a ball headed for Francisco Lindor‘s […]

Not Our Problem to Fix

Baseball is a fine diversion in all its forms, with one of its bedrock pleasures how those forms change day to day. On Friday the Mets inflicted horrors on the A’s and the A’s inflicted horrors on themselves, leading to a 17-6 win unique in the annals of Met scorekeeping and verging on unique for […]

Welcome, THB Class of 2022!

Spring is here … oh wait it totally isn’t, it’s cold and barren and horrible out there. But spring will be here soon enough, believe it or not. Which means we’d better welcome 2022’s matriculating Mets, now proud members of The Holy Books!

(Background: I have three binders, long ago dubbed The Holy Books by Greg, […]

Ajar Is As Far As Where We Are

I packed an asterisk and a caveat as I set out for my 27th consecutive Closing Day. Unlike water bottles whose caps aren’t fully sealed, security waved them right through.

A rain delay nudged Closing Day into Closing Night. Closing Night closed only so much. The door to Citi Field and the Mets’ ultimate 2022 fortunes […]

No Mercy, No Quarter

To get us rolling, a sample of my strongly held opinions that make people either smile politely until I shut up or quietly back away from me when they think I’m not noticing:

The American League is a jumped-up beer league, the National League should never have agreed to treat it as an equal, and John […]

They Give Us Something to Talk About

Brandon Nimmo finally remembers how to steal bases and in activating his dormant skill aggravates a quad that merits exiting the game early, receiving imaging later and monitoring on a day-to-day basis.

But I don’t want to talk about that.

Jeff McNeil throws his body into every possible defensive play and has trouble getting up a couple […]

Column A or Column B?

To review, these days the Mets play two kinds of games, which for simplicity’s sake we’ll tally up in separate columns.

In Column A, we record games like these, to quote some dumbass blogger: “ones in which they lose seemingly winnable affairs in horribly frustrating ways”.

Column B is the home for games like these: “ones in […]

Heart Attack Nights

The Mets, of late, play two kinds of games: ones in which they lose seemingly winnable affairs in horribly frustrating ways and ones in which they beat the absolute tar out of their opponents without breaking too much of a sweat. We’re a third of the way through September, and I’m not sure I can […]

Brett to the Future

“With yet another New York Mets Old Timers Day ahead of us this weekend, we have a lot of the former players in the ballpark tonight, so let’s send it down to our own Eddie Kraus to hear from one of them.”

“Thanks, Steve. I have with me a guy who Mets fans will recognize instantly […]
