ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

In the spirit of one Miss Mary Richards, a spunky Minneapolis television news producer who probably rooted for the Rod Carew Twins if she rooted for any baseball team between 1970 and 1977, we offer a pressing two-part question.

Twenty-five Mets said hello on Opening Day, April 1. Twenty-two of them said some variation on goodbye — whether it was farewell, so long, see ya later or be back in a bit — before Closing Day, September 29. Let us review how 88% of the 2013 Mets stopped or at least paused being 2013 […]

The name “R.A. Dickey” has become to us Mets fans what “Maria” was to Tony in West Side Story.
Say it loud and there’s music playing
Say it soft and it’s almost like praying
Now, with the 2012 Cy Young Award voted R.A. Dickey’s way by veritable landslide, suddenly that name will never be the same again.
It’s only […]

“I saw him play.”
“Yeah? What do you think?”
“He was the best. Run, hit, throw…he was the best.”
—Buck Weaver on Shoeless Joe Jackson, Eight Men Out
Listen, I’m supposed to present this award to you: Faith and Fear’s Most Valuable Met for 2011. It’s not a real award, so don’t clear space for it or anything. It’s […]

Some players talk a good game. Only one in recent memory, however, has shown a knack for articulating an extraordinary postgame.
R.A. Dickey is Faith and Fear in Flushing’s Most Valuable Met for 2010. He earned consideration through his pitching. He clinched the award the minute he cleared his throat.
The knuckleballer nobody saw coming saved […]

Too bad the story is apocryphal. Too bad lefty Giant reliever Don Liddle — after retiring lefty Vic Wertz in Game One of the 1954 World Series with two on and none out — didn’t actually declare to his teammates upon being pulled in favor of righty Marv Grissom, “I got my man.” It’s too […]

Rare is the candidate who makes good on the vast majority of his promises, but when you find one who does, you owe him your vote. Thus, this Election Day, it’s a landslide.
Johan Santana is Faith and Fear in Flushing’s Most Valuable Met for 2008.
As we continue to pick the debris from the wreckage of […]

”To be voted the most valuable player on the worst team in the history of major league baseball is a dubious honor, to be sure. But I was awarded a 24-foot boat equipped with a galley and sleeping facilities for six. After the season ended, I docked the boat in Ocean City, New Jersey, and […]

We didn’t have any great, great superstar players where one guy got all the shots. It wasn’t that kind of a team.
—Willis Reed to Dennis D’Agostino, “Garden Glory“
My earliest, most serious sports allegiances were to the 1969 Mets and the 1969-70 Knicks, both champions in the making. I haven’t stopped since ’69 where the […]

MOST VALUABLE METS AS EXPRESSED VIA THEIR BEVERAGE EQUIVALENTS
1. Pedro Martinez is Jolt Cola: Twice the sugar. All the caffeine. Not only can’t you close your eyes, you won’t want to. The hum in your head is unmistakable. Your senses are tingling. Gotta have another blast of that stuff. A sprinkler could come on and […]
