ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

“He said he would have been happy staying in the Polo Grounds.”
—John Mara on his father Wellington’s reaction to building another new stadium, 2005
I listened to the last quarter the Giants would ever play at Giants Stadium on the radio, before, during and after a shower. The Giants were taking a bath, so there was […]

Welcome to Flashback Friday: I Saw The Decade End, a milestone-anniversary salute to the New York Mets of 1969, 1979, 1989 and 1999. Each week, we immerse ourselves in or at least touch upon something that transpired within the Metsian realm 40, 30, 20 or 10 years ago. Amazin’ or not, here it comes.
They checked […]

The Phillies are a family and it doesn’t matter if you are a popcorn vendor or a fixture like Vince, who handled dugout security, or Jimmy Rollins, the reigning MVP — you all might as well be wearing the uniform.
—Doug Glanville, New York Times, November 1, 2008
Doug Glanville’s loyalty and eloquence notwithstanding, there’s not much […]

Welcome to Flashback Friday: Tales From The Log, a final-season tribute to Shea Stadium as viewed primarily through the prism of what I have seen there for myself, namely 358 regular-season and 13 postseason games to date. The Log records the numbers. The Tales tell the stories.

You’ll hear the word perfect tossed around quite a bit today. Nineteen football wins in nineteen football games, should the nineteenth of them come to pass, is admittedly awesome. Nevertheless, our idea of absolute perfection for a Super Bowl Sunday is transcribing the call of Hall of Fame broadcaster Lindsey Nelson for one half of […]

Gl@v!ne gone. Mota gone. Now the generally unlistenable Tom McCarthy has packed up his microphone for Philadelphia, where, if his slowness on the draw remains true to form, the Phillies will be clinching the 2007 N.L. East any minute now.
These are marvelous consolation prizes, I tell you what.
I wasn't a fan of McCarthy's. Nothing personal, […]

Happy Halloween, everybody. I wish today would disguise itself as part of baseball season. It’s been one month since the Mets played ball. Even their most recent version of it looks mighty good from the precipice of November.
So the Mets didn’t dress up as playoff participants. So they’ve provided no tricks and few treats since […]

If you can remember when there were first times and when there were long times, but when there was no first time/long time, then it’s Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
Twenty years ago this month Dick Young died. I know — easy applause line. Go ahead: give his demise a hand if you […]

It’s been theorized in our darker hours that the Mets used up every bit of karmic energy in their reserves to pull out the 1986 World Series and once Buckner became Buckner, that was it, no more titles for us.
Has it occurred to anybody that maybe we’re subject to the WFAN Curse?
When the Mets were last […]

If Metsian memories are building from a trickle to a flood, then it must be Flashback Friday at Faith and Fear in Flushing.
I’m unreasonably loyal to inanimate objects. Got this bright, shiny new computer recently that I refused to plug in for several days after delivery because it seemed unfair to the old, slightly rickety […]
