ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

“Everywhere I went,” Marvin Gaye and, later, James Taylor sang, “it seems I’d been there before.” In that spirit of history either repeating or rhyming, I’d have to say that on Wednesday night, I kind of got what they were getting at.
On October 25, 1986, though the result didn’t go final until the earliest hour […]

For the past two nights, I haven’t had to think about what to watch on television. It was summer and the Mets were on. The viewing menu for any Mets fan in summer has been dependably predictable that way since 1962. Sub in radio for television if that’s how you roll.
Score one for dependability, predictability […]

Welcome to the eighth chapter of Faith and Fear’s countdown of The Top 100 Mets of the 2010s. An introduction to the series is available here; you can read the most recent installment here. These are the more or less best Mets we rooted for as Mets fans these past ten years. Since a decade […]

The knots were back Sunday night. Troops of Boy Scouts, fleets of fishermen and stomachs belonging to Mets fans watching their team in the playoffs — these are the entities that know knots well. Except the Mets weren’t in the playoffs on Sunday night. It was the middle of September. Too soon for playoffs, but […]

Here’s your “watch baseball all your life and see something you’ve never seen before” moment from Saturday night: the Mets won a game by recording exactly three hits while being hit by pitches twice.
Ouch. Ouch. And yay! Necessarily in that order.
The Mets’ victory over the Dodgers at Citi Field (itself a rarity, if not really […]

There was a clinching at Citi Field on Monday night. Nothing involving a Wild Card, except for the Mets assuring themselves at least one more evening keeping time at the pennant race party. Nothing definitive for the previously surging Diamondbacks, either, except for confirming our suspicions that Wilmer Flores would make us remember him at […]

The Mets were on YouTube Wednesday. I have no idea how that went, which is probably for the best, since that was a game crying out for some combination of Gary, Keith and Ron to provide perspective and perhaps solace, following the absurd bullshit of Tuesday night. The two factoids that will haunt me: The […]

If you’ve been reading us for the last two years (in which case thank you, by the way), you know that I think Mickey Callaway is a bit dim.
That said, I have sympathy for him right now. A fair amount of it, in fact.
He’s got a closer who can’t be relied on, a setup guy […]

The rocket ride, amazingly, continues.
In front of a packed, delirious house, the Mets kept on playing baseball with verve and swagger and a talent for the impossible whenever it was necessary. From Noah Syndergaard shaking off some early stumbles (though Juan Soto will make even a sure-footed pitcher miss a step or two) to home-run […]

“At 10:13 P.M., it became officially official. The Cubs had lost, 6-2. Even if the Mets lost the second game, they would still be first. Millennium, we are here. But the Mets were no longer in a mood to lose anything.”
—Leonard Koppett, on the Mets taking first place as they swept a doubleheader from the […]
