ABOUT US
Faith and Fear in Flushing made its debut on Feb. 16, 2005, the brainchild of two longtime friends and lifelong Met fans.
Greg Prince discovered the Mets when he was 6, during the magical summer of 1969. He is a Long Island-based writer, editor and communications consultant. Contact him here.
Jason Fry is a Brooklyn writer whose first memories include his mom leaping up and down cheering for Rusty Staub. Check out his other writing here.

It’s a tenet of our blog that there are no moral victories in baseball — the loss column comes without asterisks, parentheses or stuff in superscript. Moral victories are losses.
Well, except when one of us declares that moral victories do too exist.
Maybe I was just in a good mood: Monday night’s game found me and […]

Great, there will actually be a season! Which means we have business to attend to — extending a slightly overdue welcome to 2021’s matriculating Mets, who are now in The Holy Books!
(Background: I have three binders, long ago dubbed The Holy Books by Greg, that contain a baseball card for every Met on the all-time […]

Those of you who say the New York Mets don’t respect their history should be ashamed of yourselves.
Why, on Saturday the Mets held a throwback event that was meticulously researched and thoroughly authentic — and they did it for a road game, no less!
The Mets’ Turn Back the Clock 2017 event began on a familiar […]

His name was Dr. Lago. He left Cuba years before and wound up teaching Spanish in my junior high. He was what you’d kindly call irascible. The translation of irascible en Español is also irascible, which is good information to retain in case he calls on me. Not much […]

Should this have been written in 2017? Perhaps. But in an off-season as exciting as this one, it’s hard to find a place for evergreen features.
(First of many sighs.)
Background: I have a trio of binders, long ago dubbed The Holy Books (THB) by Greg, that contain a baseball card for every Met on the all-time […]

The Mets posted a message on their videoboards prior to Friday night’s game at Citi Field: WELCOME 2017 GROUPS. Judging from the clusters of onlookers scattered throughout the stands, it could have as accurately said WELCOME 2,017 PEOPLE. Demand for tickets doesn’t spike when the home team doesn’t readily supply a steady stream of wins.
Eventually, […]

Technically, Sunday afternoon’s Mets win over the Nationals was the day half of a day-night doubleheader, but you’d be excused for confusion in that the day game itself proceeded like day and night from a Met perspective. Maybe that was appropriate at the end of a week that commenced with a solar eclipse.
DAY BREAKS: Asdrubal […]

Losing with the kids is OK, at least as I see it — tonight Amed Rosario hit a home run (awesome) and nearly got thrown out to end the game stretching a double into a triple (yikes don’t do that). And Kevin McGowan escaped ghost status, keeping the roster of Mets ghostsat nine.
On the other […]

An occasional debate in these parts and elsewhere is whether there’s such a thing as a good loss. Does it make a difference if your team lost but put the fear of the baseball gods in the opposition? Lost but learned something about themselves? (Other than, presumably, that they lost.) Lost but exhausted the other […]

In the aftermath of the Mets’ sixth consecutive loss, dropped at Arizona Tuesday night by a final of 5-4, I heard Terry Collins reason away something that went wrong by saying, “That’s just part of the game.” I forget what the question was, but I recognized the response. “That’s just part of the game” is […]
